About MeMy name is Rebecca Owen, I am 18 years old. I am currently a full time student in my first year of studying 2D and 3D animation.
Before starting my course, while still in school, throughout both high school and primary school I took a strong interest into visual arts and worked within that interest both in and out of school. Wanting to learn more and improve my skills I decided to take on a certificate III in Visual Arts which I completed last year. It was within this course, where one of the assessments was to create a stop-motion animation, that I found a new interest for animation, whether it being stop-motion, computerised or classic hand drawn animations, it all interested me and helped me realise I wanted to learn further into the field. It was also during this course as well as art class during grade 12, where I gained a fascination for special effects makeup and continue to teach myself new things whenever I have spare time around my animation course. |
Working in Animation |
I came into this course with no prior knowledge in any aspects of animation aside from stop-motion and through this animation course so far I have learnt basic forms of 2D and 3D animations as well as learning my way around the common '12 principles of animation'. I have gained knowledge working with particular software, for example, Autodesks 3DsMax, Adobe After Effects, Quixel and Adobe Flash, that up until now had confused me every time I looked at them. Although still finding my way around those software, I do have prior knowledge of software like Adobe Photoshop.

How has Other Interests Impacted on my work |
Starting off with an interest in visual art has been a very helpful aspect in the animation field. Because I had been doing art for so long I have gained fairly decent drawing, painting and digital art skills which have especially come in handy during the concept design phases and 2D aspects of animation. With my fair knowledge in Photoshop, it has also allowed me to texture any 3D models a lot easier as well as drawing up concept designs and storyboards for projects. With work in the real 3D aspect referring to Visual Art, meaning sculpting(with clay and other moulding/sculpting materials) could also help in the concept development of characters, if clients or employers wish to see a physical, miniature version of a character or set.
Although a knowledge Visual Arts is more useful and helpful to many aspects regarding animation, taking an interest in special effects and character makeup has also come in handy when it comes to thinking up and designing characters. I have never been one to be able to draw or create something completely from imagination, but when it comes to creating a character or look for makeup it becomes a lot easier, doing this helps to give me ideas on a character design that is based off of a makeup design and I have used this method a few times during my course. |
